by Jeremy Moffat on 2009-06-19 08:13:00

Its been a long time coming, but we are finally here with the new Phone Surgeon website. Naturally we have been spending more time doing what we do best which is repair phones. This website will be a live moving, ever changing site that will grow organically as you give us good ideas, suggestions and tips. We are happy to add pages, new areas and just make it better. So if you have something to say, then let us know. MOST COMMON REPAIRS One question we get asked a lot is "What is the most common repair you do" so we have responded by creating our top 10 most common repairs "hit list". This will change monthly based on new phone models, new technology and new tools. Needless to say, the guys at Nokia, Motorola, Sony, LG etc keep us busy with all the new models coming into the market. Every day is a learning day...!

To fix or not to fix
by Jeremy Moffat on 2009-07-10 08:44:00

I am often asked whether it is worth fixing a handset or not. My response is always the same. "What is the phone worth to you?" In making a decision to repair or replace you need to consider the following: 1. What is the retail replacement value of the handset compared to the repair cost 2. If you have purchased accessories for your handset, will they work with a replacement or will you have to replace a new set of accessories? 3. What information is stored on the handset. You you have personal information, precious photos, contacts etc? What value do you place on this information? Somtimes a phone can't be repaired but more often than not, data can be retrieved successfully. So, next time you find yourself in the postion of making the decision to repair or not, keep this in mind

Wet Phones
by Jeremy Moffat on 2009-07-14 09:09:00

Its one thing you dont want to happen to your phone, get it wet. Phones are sensitive pieces of electronic equipment and any moisture at all can have a serious effect on them. So what should you do if you get your phone wet? As soon as you know the phone has been wet, TAKE OUT THE BATTERY. DO NOT TRY TO TURN THE PHONE ON TAKE THE PHONE TO YOU NEAREST REPAIR CENTER AND LET THEM CLEAN AND DRY PROPERLY its that simple, If you turn it on even if you think its dry, i guarantee there will still be moisture underneath a chip or component which will definately cause damage. The tempataion is always there to turn it on i know, but DONT. As they say on the TV, let a professional handle it

Buying phones off Ebay
by Jeremy Moffat on 2009-08-25 09:15:00

One of the hardest parts of this job can be getting parts. We often get handsets in that we have never seen and therefore, don't have a ready stock of parts. It can be frustrating for both the customer and the repairer. Naturally the customer wants their phone repaired and we want to be able to repair it and earn an income. So what is the solution? Often the handsets in question are overseas models, purchased while on holiday or off Ebay. Whenever a client tells me they bought a handset off Ebay I warn them of the dangers associated if not buying from a reputable buyer. Often the overseas sellers are selling clones or "rip off" models that are poorly made and contain different parts to the originals. Finally there is no warranty on these handsets. If you read the fine print carefully often you are required to send the handset back within 14 days of despatch or something similarly unreasonable. If you are determined to buy a handset off Ebay be aware of the following: 1. Always buy from a reputable dealer 2. Always check feedback 3. Be sure to read the warranty terms carefully 4. Ask if it is a true original item, not a copy 5. Compare prices against your local outlet, they may well be prepared to cut you a deal. and finally, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS'S
